How to know if Peanut Butter is Healthy vs. Not
My top 3 Tips when Shopping for Peanut Butter
1. Look at the Ingredient List! Ideally we are only looking for 1-2 ingredients in a peanut butter.
Peanuts + Salt
or
Peanuts
(brands that have flaxseed, chia seeds, or other nutritional "toppings" are fine)
Also ask yourself...can I recognize the ingredients in this product?
Lets look at two different peanut butter ingredient lists:
JIFS Creamy Peanut Butter:
RED FLAG INGREDIENTS: Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils, Molasses, Sugar, Mono-Diglycerides.
Lets Look at Crazy Richard's Peanut Butter:
RED FLAG INGREDIENTS: NONE! Just Peanuts!
2. Look at the Nutrition Label! Specifically the Sugar, Saturated Fat, and Sodium. Lets look for brands that show this criteria:
3g or less of Saturated Fat
less than 3g of Sugar per serving
Around 100mg or less of sodium
JIF PEANUT BUTTER: 3.5g Saturated Fat, 3g of Sugar, 140mg Sodium per serving (NOT THE BEST)
CRAZY RICHARDS: 2g Saturated Fat, 2g of Sugar, 0mg Sodium per serving (BETTER CHOICE)
3. Look for these credible brands!
***All of these brands are made with just peanuts or peanuts + salt! No added oils, sugar, molasses, or preservatives! Much better choices for you and your kiddos!
